We are against dangerous e-bikers
We are urging all to take action to prevent dangerous motorized vehicles (Class 2 & 3 e-bikes, and electric motorcycles) on Class 1 and 2 walking and biking paths meant for human powered vehicles
We care about the safety and well being of all of our children and our local riding and walking trails. We are not against the safe operation of electric vehicles of any kind where they are legal and safe to operate.
Parents are against e-bikes on trails for a variety of reasons
- Collisions: E-bikes do cause collisions and frighten people and animals.
- Conservation: Conservation groups are concerned that allowing e-bikes on non-motorized trails could lead to future management problems. E-bikes damage trails, increase erosion, and frighten wildlife.
- Speed: E-bikes can travel up to 30 mph, which cause more severe injuries. Parents are concerned that children under 16 are not physically, mentally, or cognitively mature enough to safely operate high-speed motorized vehicles.
- Noise: E-bikes can create more noise than regular bikes.
- Erosion: E-bikes are heavier and often have fat knobby tires, which cause damage and increased erosion on dirt trails.
- E-bikes as “cheating”: Some people may see e-bikes as “cheating” or dislike being overtaken by someone with assisted pedal power.
